The Parables Come to Life!
This book starts incredibly strong in the introduction and never relents. I love how John MacArther quickly defeats some commonly held ideas that parables were told only for the purpose of helping us remember what He was talking about. Instead, the parables:
…hid the truth from self-righteous or self-satisfied people who fancied themselves too sophisticated to learn from Him, while the same parables revealed truth to eager souls with childlike faith—those who were hungering and thirsting for righteousness.”
So we see that Jesus used parables to reveal kingdom truth to the eager and truly hungry listeners. On the flip side, he used them to conceal kingdom truth from the self-righteous and overly religious listeners.
The rest of the book goes on to beautifully explain the intended lessons and principles of the parables that Jesus used. Each chapter covers a parable and overarching theme. These chapters are full of wonderful insights into the depth of Jesus’ teachings and the wisdom of God’s Word.
Do you enjoy Jesus’ parables? Do you find them difficult to understand? Are you looking to gain new insight into the rich truths hidden in the parables?
