This week we get to hear from a dear friend and brother in Christ, Chester Moore, Jr.
Chester is the “Editor-in-chief” at the Texas Fish & Game Magazine in Houston, Texas.
He and his wife Lisa and daughter Faith operate the Kingdom Zoo: Wildlife Center, a ministry to spread the love of God and wildlife to children all over the world.
4 Thieves That Steal Your
Christian Potential and Focus[media-credit id=1 align=”aligncenter” width=”560″][/media-credit]
There are four problems I see in Christian culture that stops many from living to their potential in Christ and actually conquering territory.
Thief #1: Church Culture
If American church culture was all God-ordained, we wouldn’t have the mess we have in America. Just because an idea comes out of the church does not mean it was given by God.
In fact, many times it is not.
Sometimes its man. Sometimes its the enemy.
Every time I hear someone talk about “the way to grow a church is…” or “(Fill in the blank) pastor or church does it this way”, I want to scream.
Thief #2: American Culture
We lift up the privileged, talented, singers, actor, etc. and somehow think that if we have one of those gifts, things are going to come easy.
NOTHING good comes easy.
We are in a war.
Along the same line of thinking, we tend to think we are owed a big house with a picket fence, an A+ student child plugged into all activities, and a vacation or two a year. Plus down time!
If you really want to move ahead, realize you will give up on down time. It will not exist.
Your “down” will be the “up” time you must spend with God.
That is part of the discipline. This might mean not going out with a bunch of church friends who may not have a clue anyway, or with family who probably doesn’t believe in your calling any way.
True friends believe in who God called you to be.
Thief #3: Hearing God
We don’t hear God as clearly because we want to hear people. I almost never ask people for advice.
If Godly advice comes, its usually after prayer and someone shows up with a word of knowledge.
Wisdom and advice are different things.
Wisdom is relating God’s word.
Advice is opinion and it usually comes from people who are as much a threat to hell as Fifi (Fee-Fee) the poodle.[media-credit id=1 align=”alignnone” width=”300″][/media-credit]
It takes knowing God, how to hear His voice, hard work, discipline and knowing what you are called to do.
I recently quit three different things at church because it wasn’t in line with what God called me to do. And my productivity has gone up!
Listen to God. Work hard and become what you are called to be. No defeat. No surrender.
Thief #4: God Will Do It All
We often learn in charismatic/spirit-filled circles that God will do it all for us.[media-credit id=1 align=”alignnone” width=”300″][/media-credit]
That is not true and it is not in the Word of God.
We must walk a journey with Him and seek His face and hand throughout.
We must spend time with God to know His voice. We also must be disciplined enough to do what He tells us. That mean scheduling things, making lists of objectives, and daily, hourly pushing ahead.
I don’t care how gifted you are, if you are lazy you are useless to God and man. Period.
WAIT! DON’T LEAVE WITHOUT SAYING HI!
